HIAH 12

Starts next Thursday 4/20/23 at 6pm with screenings by the late, legendary Tim Hix.  The first in a series of retrospectives, we honor the visionary with a selection of shorts, visual art and his surreal brand of chop and screw.  Sliced and Smoked.

Fri - Sunday, we roll in with doors and screenings at 6pm.  Acts at 7pm.

Blue Peril Sonification will play twice daily at 8 and 10pm.

About Blue Peril Sonification:

The deep ocean poses formidable challenges for its spatial and visual representation, which the mining industry exploits by claiming its mining operations will be environmentally friendly. To counter the mining industry’s greenwashing, INTERPRT analyzed data shared by marine biologists to simulate mining footprints and then collaborated with an oceanographer to model the trajectory of plume particles from seabed mining in the CCZ.  Blue Peril – demonstrates, for the first time, the vast area of the Pacific expected to be impacted by deep-sea mining and the devastation that deep seabed mining could bring to marine ecosystems and habitats.
Blue Peril Sonification is a multi-sensory a/v installation that sonifies this data and uses it as a control source for hydrophone recordings and video manipulation. The toxic sediment plume is used as a graphic score to underline the deterioration in the quality of life for both marine species and humans.

Thank you for 12 years.
